His human fear was what would keep him manageable. Derek realized with a sudden rush of anger just how powerful Stiles was and how much control he had over him. He turned his head as he backed away, saving his snarls for the ground. Blame the curse, not those who suffer from it, he thought, remember an old passage he'd read in the old books. The ones that had been burnt in the fire.
"Never again," Derek warned. He could understand though, that need for comfort. He remembered his first moon, at least the first he could remember. He remember that need to kill and the fear that he might. It was that memory, not a command, that brought him closer. He put his hand on Stiles's shoulder, proving the ability wasn't nearly full formed, as well as comforting him in some small way.
"Nothing is going to be easy from now, but you don't have to be alone with it either."
